This collaboration will be something both buyers of Jimmy Choo and Jean Paul Gaultier have never seen before because of the drastic differences in both brands styles. Jimmy Choo is known for their fabulous luxury shoes while Jean Paul Gaultier is known for their luxurious perfume collections and eccentric patterns. This collaboration combines exactly that. The collection portrays a flair of funky patterns and well-crafted glamour.

This line was designed by the creative directors of both brands, Sandra Choi from Jimmy Choo and Florence Tétier from Jean Paul Gaultier who were excited to bring on Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue as the front of the campaign. “She was very into it and she told us anecdotes of when she met Jean Paul. This is something which is super important for me, to work with people who make sense with the brand, they don’t have to be old friends of the brand, but they have to have a story about the brand and she really did.” Womens Wear Daily gave this quote from Tétier in an interview with Choi.

The collection has a style of shoe for any occasion, whether you’re looking for a sexy pair of boots for a night out or something more like the Sling Back 60 for a more classic look. The Over the Knee Boot above, gives the collection a sense of rebellion, looking like a pattern of tattoos going up the leg. Another fabulous shoe, the Pump 60, portrays a similar look to the over the knee boots, but the variety of colorful gems give them some extra sass and gives the collection a glamourous look. Jimmy Choo and Jean Paul Gaultier sure know how to create a collection different from the rest.

Advisory Board Crystals also known as “Abc” just launched today at 11 am EST on their web site their new apparel capsule in collab with the NBA breaking 90’s sport stereotypes.

The collection features different types of vintage clothes that we’ve seen in the late 80’s and early 90’s. The main fabrics are taffeta, cotton, quilted, wool and flannel which gives an old school vibe. There is a lot of embroidery going on naming the brand and the NBA. On most of the pieces including accessories there is a pattern which is stars, mainly because basketball players are the stars of the show when the game is on. The colorful stars give a sense of childhood and fun.

As any fashion capsule they also have accessories like necklaces made out of colorful beans and retro oval shape sunglasses. There’s also bean bags perfect to fit all your clothes if you are going on a two-day trip like most basketball players do when they are going to play a game.

The brand used recycle fabric for most of their clothes and that goes really well with their values. As they stated that they want to approach fashion with a philosophical mindset bringing the consumption of marihuana and basketball players to relate and do not be a tabu topic for 2023.

Daniel Lee, who is previously known for his work With Bottega Vanetta, has become the creative director of Burberry as of September 2022. Daniel Lee has officially taken Burberry to the next level not only as a whole but within the clothing itself. Throughout his new spring/summer 2024 collection, the attention to detail and commitment to overall theme is appreciated especially by the London community. The collection is an homage British Themes such as fruits and English Meadows and there is an emphasis on British clothing styles that are fitting to the body. Daniel Lee’s attention to detail and accessories allows for a more fluid collection that has multiple layers.

The floral prints give off a light and airy sensation allowing people watching to feel a sense of freedom. Although when discussing the asymmetric seams, fun prints, and sharp cuts throughout the collection, one could say Daniel lee is reinventing the traditional trench coat we all know and love.

The Fall of Luxury? Economic Decline Has Altered Consumer Spending Habits

This year, sales of infamously known high-end products are weakening as US and European consumers experience financial tightness with money saved from the 2020 pandemic.

Luxury retailers have flourished in the past due to a consumer spending spree while stuck at home. But as the masks come off, their wallets seem to be doing the same as more people tend to pull back on ultra-high-end purchases.

The fact is not hidden that people were generally bored during the global isolation. This caused the online market to skyrocket, as consumers eagerly blew through their savings on high-end products. According to Laura Sherman, fashion correspondent at Puck News, “2021 and 2022 were blockbuster years for the luxury industry.”

But what goes up, must come down. Experts warn that consumer spending habits are likely to reverse, and as student loan payments restart, resilient online shoppers are looking to save more than they spend. Earlier this year, The San Francisco Fed predicted that the average US consumer would run out of savings by the end of last quarter.

According to Bank of America card data, US spending on luxury fashion has declined 16% year-over-year in the past quarter; making it difficult for these brands to rely on high-income consumers to continue making their profits. Several luxury brands have watched their sales drop in the second quarter of 2023. And the previously marked “recession-proof” reputation of these brands is slowly coming to an end.

Indigenous Designers Opening Eyes to Everyday Tribal Fashion

In Tulsa, Oklahoma, models strut down the runway representing five different tribes and empowering all indigenous men and women with everyday tribal designs!

Recently, On October 14th in Tulsa Oklahoma at the Osage casino, Indigenous tribes from all over Oklahoma gathered to watch and admire 65 models strut down the runway representing their heritage and to show that you can represent your tribe every day. The wonderful designers that brought the pieces to the runway are Weomepe designs, L.A. apparel, Burning Wagon Designs, and Wanoshi. The designs included brightly colored patterns to reflect traditional indigenous wear. This helps empower the men and women who want to represent their tribe proudly and casually as indigenous representation has been belittled throughout the past years. Tulsa’s news channel 2 interviewed a mother who brought up her struggles representing her own heritage growing up and she is now happy that her children are growing up in an environment where representation is growing, she said “it’s everything”. But not only did the show encourage representation of indigenous tribes, but it also included representation of different body types and sizes for both male and female with their diversity of models. One of the female models mentioned to Tulsa news that it is very important for them to also empower men and their bodies because that is who they are and what they believe. The representation in the fashion show made it a wonderful hit for not just the designers but the people of the indigenous tribes in Oklahoma as they are finally reaching the representation they’ve been looking for. The designers of the pieces that were shown were also invited to the next New York Fashion Week.

Audiences at the Adobe MAX 2023 Conference were pleasantly surprised to be the first to witness Project Primrose make its very first public debut. This fully digital cocktail-style tube dress, sewn and modeled by presenter Christine Dierk, has the ability to shift between both pre-set and custom designs uploaded from Adobe products including Illustrator at the push of a button.

The dress itself is made up of thousands of paillettes woven together and tailored with the ability to reflect a design programmed to be recognized and reflected onto the garment. According to researchers, each paillette is essentially a pixel for what is essentially a wearable television screen. This fluidity in design allows limitless possibilities in apparel, accessory, and even upholstery.

Despite making such a grand entrance this year, this is not the first time the technology used to create Project Primrose has been seen in the public eye. At Adobe’s previous Adobe MAX Conference in 2022, the paillettes were introduced in the form of a handbag and a painting canvas. Updates can clearly be seen in the design, with the dress paillettes appearing more grid-like compared to the fish scale appearance of the handbag. While the technology itself has strong potential, the paillettes are still in the prototype phase and being researched.

Stella McCarney, Fall 2023 Ready-to-Wear Fashion Show

On Monday, October 16, 2023, Shanghai Fashion Week was wrapping up to a close. British fashion designer Stella McCartney returns for the first time to show her latest collection which she previously showed at Paris Fashion Week. This is her first return to SFW since 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused a slight pause in the SFW runway shows for a couple of years until recently.

McCartney had previous ties to SFW when she partnered with Chinese fashion designer Shie Lyu in 2019. McCartney bringing her brand internationally to China, this is an opportunity for her brand to make its presence in the fashion industry in China as the country has been redefining its focus more towards innovation and more sustainably focused.

The theme for this year’s Shanghai Fashion Week was ‘Synergy’ where the idea was to present a connection between the past and the future, both domestic and international influences, the industry insiders and outsiders while touching on fashion technology and sustainability. So, this opportunity was perfect for Stella McCartney to reintroduce her sustainable fashion brand into the spotlight of the Chinese fashion industry audience.

By Madison Mendriski

This collection was launched in select stores and online. This line includes magnetic closures, front facing strap adjustors and hooks, as well as sensory-friendly fabric. Victoria Secret

These products have been given the GAMUT Seal of Approval, making VS & Co. the first intimates apparel brand to earn this prestigious title. The most notable executive behind this change in VS & Co.’s values being Lydia Smith, who was appointed as the Chief Diversity Officer of Inclusion in 2021.

“From development to marketing, women with disabilities were at the forefront of bringing VS and PINK Adaptive to life. We’re pleased to continue to honor, welcome and champion all women in such an authentic way through this new collection”

Lydia Smith, CHief Diversity Officer of VS &CO.

A shift in power came to the company as many widely disliked executives got replaced with individuals with a fresher plan for the brand. Victoria’s Secret closed the door on their beloved yet controversial fashion show in 2018. These runways while iconic, were often criticized as upholding unrealistic beauty standards and majorly lacking diversity. The first long awaited runway back in 4 years was a collaboration with the company Runway for Dreams, and took place at NYFW on closing day. The show was fittingly titled ‘Fashion Revolution’, and is where this new line of inclusive intimates was launched to the public for the first time. A revolution was necessary for Victoria’s Secret to revamp not only their values, but their products. Consumers everywhere are delighted to see this push in the right direction.
