By Monserrat Medina October 31st, 2024

Balmain collection is pushing the boundaries, combining trends with a unique twist.

Balmain collection is pushing the boundaries, combining trends with a unique twist.
Oliver Rousteing was the creative mastermind behind the Balmain Spring 2025 resort collection. His vision was to combine modern luxury and streetwear, and by embracing both styles, he created a unique maximalist collection.

Interviewed by Nathan Heller, Oliver Rousteing  says “For me, it’s been very important to use clothes to talk about subjects such as diversity and ‘pop’—pop culture, population.” He was able to express himself by focusing on the details of the garments. He had exaggerated bags crafted from leather. His suits were printed with scribbles of his signature all over, ranging from huge gold to being printed all over the jackets in black ink.

Oliver experimented with the volume of the suites, creating pointed tall shoulder pads. Giving that powerful bold look. The collection ranged from cropped leather blazers to suits with tall, pointed shoulders. It was a monochromatic collection full of life, the collection was experimented head to toe, with boxy leather boots and oversized draped pants. Oliver was able to create an elegant collection combined with a daring attitude.

Tommy Hilfiger Takes Us Back Home With A Playful Twist

Tommy Hilfiger hits the deck with his iconic classic color palette

By Jathiya Abiff

For New York Fashion Week, Hilfiger had his Spring ‘25 show on Sunday September 8th, 2024 aboard the decommissioned MV John F. Kennedy ferry, previously used to travel between Manhattan and Staten Island. The designer wanted to go in the direction of doing something iconic and reminiscent of the Marine lifestyle through the silhouettes while still using the brand’s classic red, white, and blue color palette.

Paying homage to the well known look, the designer and creative director, Tommy Hilfiger himself stated, “We’re revisiting the nautical and maritime inspirations that have define our signature look since 1985.” From celebrities and the street style of 90’s hip hop music scene, many would that 90’s made Tommy Hilfiger as relevant as it is today. Hilfiger during its peak at this time designed knitted sweaters, classic windbreakers and baggy denim overalls with the Tommy Hilfiger logo on the front which can seen worn by Snoop Dogg, Wu-Tang Clan, and Questlove.

As of recently, the designer has working on incorporating new playful twists in his newer collections as he keeps up with the innovations of the fashion world today while also maintaining that classic Tommy look and remembering its roots. The designer said, “ Today it’s updated and remixed for 2025: the look has the ease of effortless summer style, but with a confidence that feels ready to step off the ferry and back into the city.”

For its maritime inspiration, the brand went with a White Regatta Jacket, and a Tommy Hilfiger lining for the inner upturned collar, worn with a red horizontal ivory knit sweater, paired with a pair of crinkled navy blue yacht shorts to maintain a fashionable youthful look.

Throughout the collection, the brand uses plain white with the Hilfiger logo or Breton and Ithaca shirting stripes for the slightly oversized short-sleeve button downs. These garments can be seen paired with chinos in navy blue, tan, or white. In some of his other looks, he includes sporty blazers rugby polos, and deconstructed trench coats. The looks are finished off with a neck-tie bandanas, hand-woven coastal slippers, and a new chunky rope TH Monogram on raffia baseball caps.

We shall climb aboard as Tommy Hilfiger continues to take us across the state to the NYC landmarks with a clean neat twist ingenious American Sporty Prep look.

To further explain the inspiration for this show, Hilfiger stated, “We’re revisiting the nautical and maritime inspirations that have defined our signature look since 1985, today, it’s updated and remixed for 2025: the look has the ease of effortless summer style, but with a confidence that feels ready to step off the ferry and back into the city.” The foundational base of the company seeks to update and introduce new levels of sophistication but revisit its core strengths.

This season, the catwalk came alive with stylish and functional wear, highlighting Hilfiger’s bold experimentation with structured silhouettes and vibrant primary colors. Royal blue and red emerged as the most prominent hues, setting the tone for the collection. An elevated Ivy League aesthetic was evident throughout, featuring club blazers made from soft wool blends, classic two-tone varsity jackets, double-pleated yacht shorts, and water-resistant nylon Regatta Jackets. Each menswear look maintained a polished vibe while incorporating playful elements, such as embroidered fisherman knit sweaters and longline striped button-ups with mismatched prints and triangular collars. Neck-tie bandanas were thoughtfully scattered throughout, adding a sailor’s touch, while the signature “TH” monogram was imprinted on everyday baseball caps, completing the look. The combination of colors, shapes, and patterns created a cohesive and dynamic collection.

Setting the show on the decommissioned Staten Island Ferry added an unforgettable element, immersing guests in the world of Hilfiger’s “Nautical with a Twist” collection. Branding details like posters and life preservers created a personal touch, reinforcing the brand’s signature aesthetic. Then, Staten Island’s own Wu-Tang Clan took the stage, the energy surged, blending fashion with nostalgia to close the night on an upbeat note. This mix of setting and style balanced newness with familiarity, showing Hilfiger’s unique ability to make his environments as iconic as his designs.

The Iconic Angels Arrive for the Victoria secret fashion shows comeback

Victorias secret annual fashion show came about in 1995 but went dark in 2018. The fashion show was held once a year and featured the models as their angels. The show became a star studded event and was in its prime in the early 2000s and featured its iconic angels such as Kate Moss, Giselle Bunchen and Naomi Campell. As the show grew rose a new generation of “it girl angels” such as Bella and Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner until the show temporarily stopped in 2018.

in the 2010s the show slowly started to lose traction as it faced backlash for not being inclusive to all women. At this time brands such as Arie were coming out who were doing the opposite. A Victorias secret high up was said to have stated that they would not include any plus sized or trans models as it ruins “The fantasy” after this was some recurring angels such as Karli Kloss were said to have stepped back from the show and the company.

To bring back the show and sales for the company Victoria secret would have to make some major changes. In October 2019 the brand changed its town hiring its first plus sized model, Ali Tate Cutler. Not long after they featured their first transgender model, Valentina Sampan. They have also through the years included more diversity and shifted away from their original market making them more appealable.

On October 15 of 2024 the Victoria secret fashion show was revived, just improved. The show featured several of the OG angels such as Kate Moss and Adrianna Lima. But also had some new angels take the stage showing much improvement in diversity and inclusivity. The show featured angels in many different colors and sizes, one recognizable angel was Ashley Graham who is a well known plus sized model.

Tuesdays show took place in New York cities, Brooklyn Navy Yard. Past shows have taken place around the country and world. The show has been perviously held in places such as London in 2014 and Shanghai in 2017.

As sales went down Victorias secrets attempt for revival was positive. Although some say there is still room for improvement, the brand has definitely made some positive changes. A spokesperson for the company says they want to “reflect who we are today”

Gap Goes Glam with Cult Gaia

Is the Gap x Cult Gaia collaboration a genuine expansion of the luxury market, or a strategic response to dwindling revenues?

Madeline Griffin Oct 17th, 2024

On Thursday, October 10th, Gap and Cult Gaia unveiled their exclusive collection, available online and in select stores, blending luxury and retail as high-end markets face a decline, signaling a shift toward more accessible fashion. At first glance, these two brands may seem worlds apart; Cult Gaia, founded in 2011 by designer Jasmin Larian Hekmat, is best known for their timeless sculptural designs and artistic aesthetic. In contrast, Gap focuses on casual staple pieces, accessible to a wide range of consumers. So, why a collaboration? This partnership may have deeper significance.

Gap

Given the current decline in the high-end market, luxury giants like LVMH and Kering might take some hard financial hits. Citi analyst Thomas Chauvet said that the projected drop in sales at LVHM “is a clear negative for the industry ahead of the third-quarter reporting season and in the run-up to key Christmas and Chinese New Year trading periods.” Following the COVID-19 pandemic, people have sat out on sales, especially Chinese consumers. Domestic sales went up, but never completely made up for the loss of purchases Chinese shoppers made abroad. Despite the economic decline, has luxury lost its appeal? Consumers have become more conscious of spending and are prioritizing practicality, but mainly affordability.

Gap

Could this be the start of something new? The collaboration between Gap and Cult Gaia might have found a way to reach new audiences, without sacrificing either brand’s identity. This partnership allows luxury brands a chance to test out affordability while letting well-known retailers enhance their credibility.

Be sure to check out the collection; you don’t want to miss this glam duo!
